About Robert MacDermott

I qualified from Leeds University Medical School in 1984 and trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Yorkshire. I moved to Kent in 2000 to take up a Consultant post at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford. I treat a wide range of gynaecological conditions and have special interests in Urogynaecology (the treatment of urinary incontinence and prolapse), the treatment of heavy periods and Minimal Access Surgery (keyhole surgery).

As well as my clinical interests, I am a great believer in empowering patients through providing information. Studies show that patients

forget a large proportion of what they have been told in a consultation within a short space of time. I have routinely sent patients a copy of letters that I write to their GP since 2001. I have also written many patient information leaflets for my hospital. I hope that this website will help both my patients and other women who are searching for more information about their condition.

My NHS practice is based at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford (next to Bluewater). Darent Valley Hospital opened in 2000 and provides all the facilities that one would expect of a District General Hospital. It has consistently gained 3 stars under the Department of Health's scheme and achieved level 2 CNST rating in 2005, becoming the first hospital in Kent to do so.

My private practice is based at Fawkham Manor Hospital in Longfield (2 miles from Brands Hatch, close to the M25, M20 and A2). Fawkham Manor Hospital is situated in a beautiful setting in the North Downs. It has recently undergone a major refurbishment to make a patient's stay more enjoyable.
