About Robert MacDermott
I qualified from Leeds University Medical School in 1984 and trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Yorkshire. I moved to Kent in 2000 to take up a Consultant post at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford. I treat a wide range of gynaecological conditions and have special interests in Urogynaecology (the treatment of urinary incontinence and prolapse), the treatment of heavy periods and Minimal Access Surgery (keyhole surgery).
As well as my clinical interests, I am a great believer in empowering patients through providing information. Studies show that patients

forget a large proportion of what they have been told in a consultation within a short space of time. I was a pioneer in sending patients a copy of letters that I write to their GP. I have also written many patient information leaflets for my hospital. I hope that this website will help both my patients and other women who are searching for more information about their condition.
My main NHS practice is based at Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford (next to Bluewater). Darent Valley Hospital opened in 2000 and provides all the facilities that one would expect of a large District General Hospital. I also provide NHS services at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup.
KIMS Hospital is in Maidstone (just off junction 7 of the M20 and therefore very accessible). With 99 beds and 5 operating theatres, KIMS provides enhanced care facilities for patients in modern surroundings.
